Independent review to examine education appointment in Guernsey

An independent review will take place examining the recruitment of a senior education boss in Guernsey.

In a vote last week, politicians opted against holding a tribunal inquiry into how the Head of Curriculum and Standards was appointed.

But the government’s Scrutiny Committee now says an independent review should be carried out to examine the appointment, following accusations of political interference.

A leaked email suggested that Deputy Matt Fallaize had threatened to resign if a certain person had been appointed to the role.

It is understood that Deputy Fallaize was then successful in securing Clare Sealy in May, who was both his and the Education Committee’s preferred candidate.

Deputy Fallaize has consistently denied the allegations and Guernsey’s Education Committee rejected claims that they overruled civil servants.
