Jersey’s government has forced the closure of a parody Twitter account.

It previously used the ‘@StatesofJersey’ address but changed it to ‘@govJersey’ last month as part of a rebrand, though it failed to keep its old address protected.

The account began publishing parody messages lampooning government ministers and the communications unit, attracting around 350 followers along the way.

Despite clearly labeling itself a parody site, Jersey’s government failed to see the funny side and approached Twitter to seek its closure.

The account is currently live but locked so previous tweets cannot be seen.

In a statement to ITV News, the Government of Jersey say they have ‘requested the rights the rights to remain owner of the @StatesofJersey Twitter handle’.
