Lack of responses to rent Griffith's Yard land 'disappointing'

The States of Guernsey are calling for more businesses to apply to use the land at Griffith’s Yard, as there has been a “disappointing” number of responses so far.

The States Trading Supervisory Board was directed by the Assembly last year to make land, including Griffiths Yard, available to rent for the open storage of construction materials and equipment and for heavy industrial purposes.

Since then 10 applications have been received, with four being construction related.

Although the official deadline to express interest has now passed, States Property Services say they will still consider any response received before the 22nd February.

This is incredibly frustrating, as historically light industrial businesses have complained at the lack of suitable and affordable open storage land for industry. Yet here we are offering space to lease and the response has been underwhelming to say the least. We are saying we have the facilities, and all we need is for industry to come to us.
