Piquet House To Stay Empty
27th June 2018
The former police station in Jersey’s Royal Square is likely to remain empty for at least the next 18 months because it will cost too much to refurbish.
The new Infrastructure Minister has revealed a make-over for the historic Piquet House will cost around a £1 million.
The building was to be sold in 2014, but the States voted to keep it and find a community use for it.
Long-running talks with one organisation have ended without agreement.
Infrastructure Minister Deputy Kevin Lewis says the six figure refurbishment cost is the ‘main stumbling block’.
Plans have been drawn up, but he says it is unlikely any bid for capital funding would be successful before 2020 at the earliest.
The news comes just days after Jersey Property Holdings was criticised by the government’s Comptroller and Auditor General for poor management of States’ owned land and buildings.
